Dentist in Avenel, NJ
If you're searching for a reputable family dentist in Avenel, NJ, look no further than Eastern Dental. Our dental professionals include a periodontist and an orthodontist, so we cover routine care, gum disease treatments, and braces.
Whether you require a bi-annual cleaning or more in-depth treatment, we're here for you. If you can't identify the problem with your teeth, we'll take X-rays and recommend the appropriate dental services. An infected pulp, for example, may require a root canal. Should you come to us because you have broken, missing, discolored, or badly shaped teeth, we can present you with a variety of solutions, including:
- Dental fillings
- Dental crowns
- Removable and fixed bridges
- Full and partial dentures
If you have a cavity, know that we have plastic and porcelain filling options that can blend in with the rest of your teeth. Our crowns are made from porcelain, and we can use them to restore broken teeth or protect weakened teeth. If you want to keep your back teeth from decaying, ask about our dental sealants. To restore large gaps in the mouth, you can look into our bridges and partial dentures.
Our family dentistry services wouldn't be complete, however, if we treated only teeth. That's why our dental professionals make sure that patients have clean, tartar-free gums by performing deep cleanings. We can also help patients who need:
- Wisdom teeth extractions
- Bone grafting
- Soft tissue grafting
Our cosmetic dentistry options include not only teeth whitening but also dental bonding and veneers. Teeth whitening works on common stains caused by food and drink while bonds are meant to improve the look of chipped or cracked teeth. Veneers cover up discoloration that comes from inside the teeth.

Meet Our Team
Dr. Sumner Schwarz was a top student all his life and he's never stopped learning. After getting a Bachelors of Art in Biology at the University of Rochester, and a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, he then returned to his hometown of Manhattan where he studied dentistry at Columbia. He graduated in 1987 in the top 10% of his class and was elected to the National Dental Honor Society.
After a general practice residency at Jamaica Hospital in NY, he spent 19 years in private practice in Staten Island and Manhattan before crossing the river and joining Eastern Dental in NJ. He now resides in New Providence with his wife and dog and has three grown children. His spare time is spent with his family.
Coming from a family of dentists, Dr. Aaron Prestup always loved dentistry and was designed to be a dentist himself. Even though he's been helping keep patient's gums healthy as our periodontist since 1980, he didn't start out that way.
When he graduated dental school in NJ in 1972, Dr. Prestup practiced general dentistry. He went back to Columbia in 1979 to become a Periodontic Specialist, and joined Eastern Dental the following year.
Dr. Prestup was born in Newark and grew up in Irvington, NJ. He has three children and loves kayaking, and is an avid skier. If you see him on the slopes, be sure to flash him your happy, healthy smile.
